Senior pets end up homeless for many reasons. Sometimes guardians pass away, families are split up, finances get tight. Then a pet losses his family and home. This is sad, but the great thing is, animals don’t grow bitter; they are always up for a new love, a new adventure, a new day.
November is Adopt a Senior Pet Month and in honor of our gray-muzzled friends we are spotlighting senior pets at our A New Day for Gray adoption event made possible by a grant from the ASPCA and Subaru. On Friday, November, 20th and Saturday, November, 21st rescued and rehabilitated seniors will be available for adoption for a discounted fee of $50. Thanks to grant funding, senior shelter pets will receive some special TLC in preparation for a new start in life. The grant award is part of national effort between the ASPCA and Subaru focused on supporting animal welfare organizations and lifesaving programs.
A senior pet can make a wonderful edition to a family. When you adopt a senior pet, you know exactly what you are getting; you get to know the important things like their full grown size and personality right from the start. Senior pets can be easier to train. They are calmer and often have years of experience reading humans, so they can quickly figure out what you are asking of them. Senior pets don’t require the 24/7 attention like younger pets tend to do. They can often fend for themselves for longer periods of time than a younger puppy or kitten; this can be a real advantage to people with long work hours. We hope to see a lot of people at the event and find homes for dozens of senior cats and dogs looking for a new adventure and family to love.
